About a year ago, I started writing the first of the little adventures of 50 years ago, fluffing them out with current research into details I’d barely noticed back then. I also mixed in some of the memories of growing up, and, for later chapters, growing old.
My friend Bill was the instigator of many of these adventures, so I begin with the story of our 1973 trip from Holland to Marquette to retrieve the items he’d left in his dormitory at Northern Michigan University.
When I lacked direct memory of the three friends I traveled with, I used memories and new research into that which we had in common. Bill and I each experienced Boy Scouts in many of the same locations, each with our respective troops. Most of our dialog is spun from my research.
A story of Camp Kirk and the summer camps that have drawn folks there for centuries is excerpted here. It’s a PDF, so read it online, or download to read, or print it.
Thanks!
